Guilty Verdict in Bryant Murder

The three people accused of killing Manchester High star athlete Daryus Bryant received the verdict in the case late in the afternoon on Tuesday, May 26 in Muscogee County Superior Court. Three Talbot County residents were convicted in the case and are expected to be sentenced on Tuesday, June 23.

Second Saturday Returns to Hamilton

Second Saturday is coming back to Hamilton starting in June and under new management. Previously operated by Cheryl Rees, retired high school teacher and owner of Boutique on the Square in Hamilton, Second Saturday had achieved a faithful following of both vendors and customers. It included arts and crafts, baked goods, collectibles, yard sale items, and just about anything else.

County To Receive More Funds for Roadwork

During the Tuesday, May 19, meeting, the Harris County Commissioners approved more repair work on county roads. It was reported the county had been allocated in excess of $1.1 million in LRA, or Local Road Assistance Funds. This supplemental amount had not been anticipated or budgeted, and is a one-time allocation.

During the town council meeting held Monday, May 11, Pine Mountain became Harris County’s first Purple Heart city. Having Pine Mountain designated as a Purple Heart city and becoming part of the Purple Heart Trail was a goal of Mayor Mary Ruth Mullins as her father was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Pine Mountain Elected Officials Approve Huge Pay Increase

There was a bit of shock and awe during last week’s town council meeting in Pine Mountain. This developed when council members approved a pay raise for the mayor and council member positions. Such a pay raise had been previously discussed as it had remained the same for a very long time, but the amount was shocking.

Time Capsule Contributions Still Sought

There is still time to be remembered in 25 years. In celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the Harris County Public Library, a time capsule is being buried soon after May 31, and contributions to the capsule are being encouraged.
